Just wrapped up an exciting dining experience in Seattle. Sutra is a small eclectic vegetarian restaurant in Wallingford, serving seasonal and locally sourced 4 course pre-fixe menus. A lot of care goes into this food.
It was superb. Not a weak dish. So satisfying.
Here was tonight’s menu:
First Course: Sunburst Squash stuffed with Smoked Eggplant, garnished with a confit of Heirloom Cherry Tomato, Roasted Garlic and Shiso, finished with a Balsamic Sherry Reduction.
Second Course: Salad of Pickled Baby Carrot, Shaved Fennel, Mixed Greens and Purslane, with a Wallingford Rainier Cherry Thyme Vinaigrette and Spicy Candied Sunflower Seeds.
Third Course: Skewered and Moroccan-glazed Yellow Beets, Zucchini, Spring Red Onion, Turnip served atop a Cauliflower “cous cous” with Spinach, Grilled Garlic Scapes and a Sunchoke Saffron Puree.
Fourth Course: Fresh Blueberry and Raspberry Torte with a Crystalized Ginger, Hazelnut and Sesame crust, served with vegan Vanilla Bean Coconut Ice Cream.
Reminded me a bit of Elf in Echo Park, but Sutra is a bit more envelope-pushing. Either way, I’m full.
a memory enhancing drug. hmmm, i’ll take that.
